Evaluation of Myocardial Function with Cardiothoracic Ratio of X-ray in Children’s Chest Pain : by Tissue Doppler Imaging
Purpose: Chest pain in children is not rare, presented by diverse feature. The cause is idiopathic in most common, rarely associated with cardiovascular disease. However, there is no diagnostic standpoint to predict cardiac problem. The purpose of this study is to find some parameter to inform cardiac status for the chest pain patients.
Methods: From January 2006 to July 2008, 184 children presented with chest pain. The medical records of these patients were reviewed. Cardiothoracic ratio was calculated on chest radiography and echocardiographic data were analyzed. Laboratory data were reviewed. All included children were divided into group A and B by CT ratio.
Results: Pro-BNP, an important cardiac biomarker level was significantly greater in A of larger CT ratio group, tissue Doppler early diastolic velocities of lateral annuli were also statistically significant.
Conclusion: It would be recommended to investigate cardiac problem with pro-BNP and tissue Doppler echocardiographic measurement, especially in larger CT ratio cases of children presented with chest pain.
